CHURUBUSCO — It was the girls’ turn on the Churubusco High School track Saturday.
Much like their male counterparts did the weekend prior, the ‘Busco Lady Eagles shined in front of their home crowd.
Using a strong performance in the field events, Churubusco dominated the black division of the Turtletown Invitational Saturday, winning by 49.5 points over second-place rival Whitko.
All three Whitley County girls track and field teams participated in the invitational with the Lady Eagles of Columbia City coming away with third-place in the gold division just ahead of Bellmont 69-68 while Warsaw won the day with 117.5 points over Westview.
City’s only win came in the field with junior Carlee Hearld. Regional qualifier in the high jump, Hearld cleared 5-2 to beat out Bellmont’s Bailee Hankenson.
Kalisha Goree had a strong day, grabbing two second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (15.98) and long jump (16-4.25) to go along with an eighth-place finish in the 300 hurdles and sixth-place tie in the high jump.
