DECATUR— Columbia City’s baseball team opened its conference schedule last night with a loss at Bellmont High School by a score of 8-5.
Columbia City scored five runs on nine hits with one error, and Bellmont scored eight runs with 13 hits and one error.
Eagle designated hitter Austin McCormick and third baseman Jordan Bickle hit one double each, while first baseman Connor Reed clobbered a home run, his first of the season.
Pitcher Connor Slavich’s fifth start of the year would prove to be a difficult one against conference foe Bellmont. He pitched all six innings of the game, striking out nine batters, and giving up eight earned runs, 13 hits and one intentional walk.
Slavich received the loss for the game, giving him a 3-2 record.
Catcher Derek Lamle scored two of the Eagles’ runs as he went 2-3 at the plate and stole a base.
Left fielder Austin Clark drove in a run and scored one run of his own to go with a .500 batting average and a walk.
The Eagles now hold an 8-3 record. Columbia City plays again Thursday at Homestead.
