ROANOKE — A three-year old boy was killed and three other children were severely injured in a Sunday night crash on the edge of Whitley County.
At approximately 8 p.m., a Honda van containing two adults and four children was rear-ended by another Honda van at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Ind. 114, injuring four and taking the life of a three-year-old boy.
The vehicle that hit the van with the children was driven by Mya Tha Tun, 52, of Fort Wayne. Tun was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing death, after rear-ending the other van.
Joel Hoffman,35, also from Fort Wayne, was the driver of the first van, which was stopped at a red light in the westbound lane of U.S. 24. Christina Hoffman, 34 was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after a complaint of pain.
Three of the children were airlifted to Fort Wayne Hospitals.
According to Deputy Cory Patrick of the Whitley County Sheriff's Department, all three children were wearing seatbelts and had properly fitting carseats.
Tun was admitted to the hospital and arrested upon his release. He is booked at the Whitley County Jail with a Class C Felony, operating while intoxicated causing death.
