JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — Firefighters from four Whitley County departments as well as Roanoke responded early today to a house fire that destroyed a Southeast Whitley County home.
According to Whitley County Sheriff’s Department dispatch reports, the fire began on the porch of a large farm house located at 9885 S. CR 500 E. where flames were visible.
The call came into WCSD dispatchers at 2:13 a.m. The first units arrived on the scene at 2:28 a.m.
Initial reports say the fire was suspected to have started in the vicinity of where the main electrical feed enters the house.
Area news reports said firefighters had difficulty fighting the blaze due to trees and power lines around the house.
Jefferson Township Fire Department was the primary unit in charge at the scene. That department was joined by units from Union, Columbia, Washington townships and Roanoke.
Area news reports said there were two occupants in the house who both escaped and no injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation. As of 7 a.m. today, firefighters were still on the scene.
