BLOOMINGTON — Three Whitley County athletes traveled to Bloomington for the Indiana State Track finals at Indiana University Friday afternoon.
Churubusco’s Heather Monk is returning to the county with a medal. Monk placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 5 inches.
The winning throw was over 143 feet. Monk also competed against the top in the state in the shot put and came in 15th with a heave of 38 feet, 2.75 inches.
Carlee Hearld and Samantha Roush represented Columbia City with 10th-place finishes in their respective events.
Samantha Roush ran the mile in 5:03.22. The first place runner finished with a time of 4:53.95. Hearld’s jump of 5 feet, four inches matched the seventh-place jumper’s height.
Columbia City’s Matt Rethlake, Whitko’s Alec Wilkinson and Churubusco’s Austin McClure will compete in the boys state finals today at Indiana University in Bloomington.
