FORT WAYNE — Betty Jo “B. J.” (Dazey) Thiel, 60, a resident of Fort Wayne and native of Wolf Lake, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her home. She had been in declining health since December.
Mrs. Thiel was born in Wolf Lake on Sept. 30, 1951, a daughter of James C. “J. C.” and Mary (Moeller) Dazey, and spent her formative years there.
She graduated from Central Noble High School in 1969, and from the Parkview School of Nursing in 1971. She was formerly employed at Parkview Hospital for 25 years, and for the past 10 years worked as a nurse for Parkview Home Health & Hospice as well as EMSI.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her life was marked by selflessness, sacrificial giving and love for humankind. Her faith was stronger than death and her life brought glory to God in everything that she did.
On Oct. 13, 1979, she was married in Fort Wayne to Richard L. “Rick” Thiel. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2008.
She will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Erin E. (Rob) Niman, of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Eric Thiel, of Kingman, Arz.; two sisters, Cheri Dazey, of Hammond and Sandi (Steve) Lemish, of Albion; four brothers, James C. (Rhae) Dazey II, of Kendallville, Terry (Margaux) Dazey, of Albion, Chuck (Sandy) Dazey, of Wolf Lake and Ron (Angie) Dazey, of Albion and her beloved grandchildren, Robbie P. Niman, Jr., Wesley A. Niman, Parker L. Niman, Braylon J. Niman and Lucas J. Niman.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Pathway Community Church, 11910 Shearwater Run, Ft. Wayne. Rob Niman and Chaplain Karen Kosberg will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday, from 1 to 6 p.m. or at the church one hour prior to the service. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
