Elizabeth June Earnhart, 95, of South Whitley died at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where she was admitted Saturday. She had been a resident at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester since November, 2011.
She was born Oct. 15, 1916, in Noble County, a daughter of J. Stanley and Mabel (Koher) Himes.
At age eight, the family moved to South Whitley where she attended school. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1934.
On Aug. 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Aurel Earnhart. They made their home in South Whitley. Mr. Earnhart died March 2, 1988.
She began her work career with United Telephone Company in South Whitley for nine years. She then became the cafeteria manager for South Whitley Schools for more than 20 years. She completed her work career as co-owner and operator of South Whitley Florist for 12 years. She continued part-time after selling the business.
Her memberships included the United Methodist Church of South Whitley, Eastern Star and was a registrar at the annual Old Settlers Festival for more than 20 years.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Barbara A. (Stan) Sickafoose, of Columbia City and Suzanne K. (David) Callahan of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Mark (Christina) Sickafoose, Katy, Texas and Jennifer (Andy) Rice of Huntington; five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Alex Sickafoose, Audrey, Evan and Drew Rice
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Jacob Himes.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
