COLUMBIA CITY — In most cases, it’s better safe than sorry.
Columbia City High School was on lock down for Monday morning after a gun magazine was found on the street in front of the school.
A K-9 unit from Allen County was brought to the school to search the building, but during the search it was determined that the magazine belonged to a Columbia City Police Officer.
Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said there was no safety issue with the students, and they were put on lock down as a precaution.
“It was an accident,” Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said. “It was just a coincidence that it happened in front of the high school.”
Longenbaugh said he is working on a plan to keep this from happening again.
