COLUMBIA CITY — An apple a day does keep the doctor away, but area school students are also having a spoonful of change to improve nutrition in their lives.
New federal regulations have created changes with lunch programs at education centers nation-wide, and local schools have also had to adjust.
Some of the new requirements include calorie limits for students by age, larger servings of vegetables and less sodium, among others.
These new rules have been a change for school administrators as well as the students in the buildings. Smith-Green Community Schools Food Services Director Pam Hill said that the students have noticed the new food.
“Some of them try it. For some of them it is totally different,” she said of the new food choices.
