COLUMBIA CITY — A Churubusco man who was previously convicted of bomb charges has pleaded guilty in Whitley County Circuit Court to sexual misconduct charges.
Christopher Sargent, 23, accepted a plea agreement for the Class B felony in exchange for a sentence of 7.5 years, with an added 2.5 years for probation violation.
Sargent’s first run-in with the police was in July 2011, when the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a possible illegal drug case and stumbled upon a bomb at Sargent’s home he rented.
Fort Wayne’s bomb squad was called to the house at 5830 N. Timberlane Dr. after police found the fused bomb inside a silver briefcase. Sargent could have faced federal charges for the bomb, but since police didn’t feel he intended to hurt anyone with it, no federal charges were pressed.
Sargent was arrested July 22, 2012 for having sexual intercourse with a minor who was at least 14 but not 16 years of age. Sargent was 23 at the time of the arrest.
