COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s wrestling team suffered a disappointing loss on senior night to Garrett Wednesday, 37-33.
The Eagles went into the final match with a one-point, 34-33 deficit. Despite 152-pound Riley Harter’s best effort, he lost 10-3 to Garrett’s Sam Lawrence.
Although it was one of the final matches of the season, it was Harter’s first time on the mat as a varsity grappler.
Columbia City head coach Blane Culp commended the efforts of Noah Ray and Michael Wright. Wright won a close match in the 126-pound weight class.
After being locked in a tie for much of the match, Wright pulled off a 19-12 win with a reversal, escape and near-fall in the final period.
Though Ray also had a hard-fought match, he fell by pinfall in the 120-pound class, less than 40 seconds away from the end of the third period.
Russell Hazelet nabbed the Eagles’ lone pin, topping Garrett’s Connor Foster in the 182-pound class in 3:01.
The Eagles are prepping for the conference match at DeKalb Saturday.
