FORT WAYNE — A scoring drought that lasted the final six minutes of the ball game allowed the host Northrop Lady Bruins to go on an 11-0 run and take a come-from-behind, 36-30, win over the visiting Columbia City Lady Eagle basketball team Tuesday night.
The Bruins held a 19-15 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Eagles were able to score from both the field and the free-throw line.
A basket and two free throws by Emily Whiteleather brought the Eagles within four at 25-21.
A 3-pointer by Alyssa Hansen brought the Eagles to within one at 25-24.
A minute later, Hansen hit a jumper from the left side of the key to give the Eagles their first lead since the first quarter, 26-25.
The Eagles started the fourth quarter getting baskets from Aubrey Wright and Schnorr to extend their lead to 30-25.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be the last points they would score as the Lady Bruins went on an 11-0 run, fueled by pressure that both disrupted the Eagle offense and forced turnovers.
The hosts also went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line down the stretch to pull out the 36-30 win.
Columbia City falls to 6-14 on the season.
The Lady Eagles return to action Saturday when they play host to the New Haven Bulldogs in the annual Senior Night contest.
