COLUMBIA CITY — Parking problems have been an issue for Columbia City for some time, and the Common Council approved an ordinance Tuesday in an effort to provide a solution.
The new ordinance, which unanimously passed by the council, now allows for parking in the North Chauncey Street Municipal Parking Lot near the post office. There will be two handicapped spots, three two-hour spaces and the remainder will have a 24-hour limit on the time a vehicle can remain in any one spot.
Members of the public were on-hand, representing concerns of landlords and business owners. While nobody was completely satisfied, most felt it was a step in the right direction.
“There are no easy answers,” said Councilman Dan Weigold. “We have to learn to get along and try to respect each other’s areas, so to speak.”
