COLUMBIA CITY — High school softball is a game dominated by pitching and solid defense behind the plate.
When a team loses its ace All-Northeast Hoosier Conference pitcher and its All-NHC catcher, normally the other teams in the conference would be licking their chops in anticipation of this year’s season.

Last year, the Lady Eagles posted a 19-9 overall record including a 7-0 sweep of the Northeast Hoosier Conference.
Graduation took the number one battery of pitcher Cassie Vodde and catcher Megan Giffin, both of whom posted All-NHC seasons.
“It’s hard to replace the experience of those two,” said Eagle head coach Steve Cox, “But we have some kids who are really stepping up to fill the positions.”
