COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Board of Works and Public Safety unanimously approved the rain barrel program at Tuesday’s meeting.
Citizens may purchase rain barrels and have part of the cost refunded by the city as part of the rebate. Participation in the program meets one of the minimum control requirements.
One clarification is that barrels may be purchased from any source as long as they are in compliance with minimum requirements. Those requirements include construction from plastic or wood and a capacity of between 45 and 65 gallons. There should also be a lid and seals on the openings to prevent mosquito attraction.
