SOUTH WHITLEY — A South Whitley woman was found dead in a pond in Cleveland Township Sunday morning.
Officials say Bonnie Knetter, a 74-year-old who lived in the apartments located at 7550 W. CR 500 S, was discovered in a pond near her home by her family.
According to Indiana conservation officers, Knetter’s relatives came to check on her at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday, but couldn’t find her in her home.
The family searched the vicinity and found her in the pond a few hundred feet from her home, officials say.
Authorities from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland Township Fire Department, Whitley County EMS and local police were dispatched, and Knetter was pulled from the water.
Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to a release by conservation officers, Knetter had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
An autopsy is planned today to determine her cause of death, but officials don’t believe foul play is a factor.
