Whitko softball season comes to an end

OSSIAN — Whitko’s softball season came to a close Tuesday night, as the Lady Wildcats fell to Bellmont in the opening round of sectional action.

The Lady Braves beat Whitko 9-2, in a game that recorded 20 hits between both teams.

Though they only scored two runs, the Lady Wildcats had eight hits, compared to Bellmont’s 12.

Though the rest of the game was more evenly-matched, the Lady Braves tallied seven runs in the first inning — a deficit too tough to overcome.

Whitko 10-runs Bethany Christian Monday

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s boys baseball team took out its frustration from dropping a double header to Norwell Saturday by pounding Bethany Christian Monday night.

The Wildcats handed their opponents a 12-2 loss.

Bethany Christian took a 2-0 advantage in the first two innings, but Whitko fired back in the second, third and fourth frames to combine for 12 runs, ending the game in the fifth inning.

Whitko began its tear when Trey Weber batted in Hunter Sroufe.

Weber hit 2-for-3, with three RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases.

Eagles drop tiebreaker, linksters fall to Wawasee

SYRACUSE — Columbia City’s boys golf match came down to a tiebreaker Tuesday at South Shore Golf Course.

The Eagles traveled to Syracuse to take on Wawasee in a close match, as the score ended with a 157-tie.

With the tiebreaker coming down to the fifth varsity linksters, Wawasee’s No. 5, Mason Ginonprez, outshot Columbia City’s Matt Benedict, 42-47, giving the Warriors the win.

Columbia City freshman Tyler Green was the match medalist, scoring par with a 36.

Rongos on to next round

CULVER — Columbia City’s standout netter Celine Rongos won in the first round of regional action Tuesday night at Culver Academies.

Rongos beat Jordan Fraser of North Judson by a 6-1, 6-1 score in singles action.

She will be in action again Thursday night, taking on the winner of Wawasee’s and Bremen’s No. 1 singles players.

Macie Hinen and Sydney Ford, No. 1 doubles from Columbia City, will be in action tonight against Northfield, also at Culver Academies.
