Girls tracksters prep for regional

FORT WAYNE — Nearly 20 Whitley County girls athletes are headed to the Northrop Regional track meet Tuesday.

Though all have different goals and aspirations for the rest of the season, one thing is certain — all are happy to stay in the mix for another week.

For Columbia City junior Samantha Roush, its a state finals bid she’s looking for. For Whitko senior Josie Sparks, it’s a school record.

Undefeated: Whitko’s Winning Wolf

SOUTH WHITLEY — “What we are seeing here is the byproduct of four years of hard work.”

Whitko Head Baseball Coach Erik Hisner didn’t expect to have an undefeated pitcher this far into the season — but he does.
Wyatt Wolf, senior, is 5-0 on the season, including throwing a no-hitter earlier this year.

“It’s not something we emphasize with our pitchers,” Hisner said. “We emphasize controlling the controllable. Sometimes you have no control over your win-loss record. What we do have control over is our attitude, effort and competitiveness.”

Whitko softball falls to North Miami, Rochester

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s softball team fell in two Three Rivers Conference games earlier this week.

The Lady Wildcats lost to North Miami Monday. The host-Lady Warriors beat the Lady Wildcats by a final score of 10-0.

The Lady Wildcats dropped their senior night contest Wednesday to Rochester, 14-0.

Whitko golf splits match

NORTH MANCHESTER — Whitko’s boys golf team took second in a three-way meet at Sycamore Golf Club.

The Wildcats shot 164. Tippecanoe Valley scored 164 as well, and the tie was broken by the score of the fifth golfer. Manchester came in third with a total of 186.
