NECC TOURNEY: ’Busco baseball wins

TOPEKA ­— In a doubly momentous occasion, Churubusco’s Eagle baseball team scored a 14-9 win over West Noble Saturday in a game played at Westview. The win gave the Eagles the Northeast Corner Conference Tournament title and Head Coach Mark Grove his 500th win as a coach.

Churubusco jumped out in front, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning. The Eagles added another run in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead.

JOHN REED RELAYS: Col. City competes

KENDALLVILLE ­­— Dominating performances by relay teams helped Columbia City’s girls track team take second at the East Noble Relays Saturday.

The 800-meter relay team of Regan Decker, Molly Green, Hannah Wappes and Elise Cormany finished first with a time of 1 minute, 49 seconds.

’Busco downs Fairfield, advances to finals

CHURUBUSCO — A sixth-inning explosion by Churubusco’s baseball team helped the Eagles to a 17-7 win in the NECC semi-finals versus Fairfield Friday night.

Fairfield got on the board first, putting up two runs after three scoreless innings. Churubusco responded when Marcus Moog hit the centerfield fence with an RBI double. Drew Buffenbarger followed with a homerun that scored Moog and himself, giving the Eagles a 4-2 advantage.

EAGLE WIN: ’Busco golf downs Eastside, Westview

AUBURN — Churubusco’s boys golf team traveled to Bridgewater golf course for a three-way contest with Eastside and Westview high school Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles dominated, scoring 174, followed by Eastside, 203, and Westview, 205.
