SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s junior varsity baseball season is ending on a high note, with a win against Eastside and another broken school record.
The JV squad has broken the school record for number of wins in a single season. Monday’s 8-7 victory over Eastside was the team’s 17th win on the year.
After suffering a 3-2 deficit, Whitko battled back to score five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 8-7 win.
FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s Katie Monk is joining three Columbia City athletes at the Indiana State Track Meet in June.
Monk tossed the discus 128 feet, 6 inches at Northrop’s regional meet Tuesday, qualifying for another trip to the state finals. Monk medaled last year, placing sixth with a throw of 129 feet.
In nearly a repeat of last year’s state finalists from Whitley County, Monk is to join Samantha Roush and Carlee Hearld — again — at Bloomington.
OSSIAN — Whitko’s softball season came to a close Tuesday night, as the Lady Wildcats fell to Bellmont in the opening round of sectional action.
The Lady Braves beat Whitko 9-2, in a game that recorded 20 hits between both teams.
Though they only scored two runs, the Lady Wildcats had eight hits, compared to Bellmont’s 12.
Though the rest of the game was more evenly-matched, the Lady Braves tallied seven runs in the first inning — a deficit too tough to overcome.
