COLUMBIA CITY — Sometimes, no matter how hard you try you just can’t seem to get the job done. That has to be the feeling that the Columbia City boys’ soccer team had after Monday night’s Northeast Hoosier Conference match against the visiting East Noble Knights.

SOCCER DOUBLE-HEADER: Whitko boys, girls soccer earn wins over North Miami

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s boys and girls soccer teams picked up Three Rivers Conference wins Saturday in a double-header with North Miami.
The girls took the field first, beating their conference foes 5-1 after an impressive second half. Whitko took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but tacked on four goals in the second to take the win.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT USEFUL: Lady Eagles place third, Whitko sixth

SYRACUSE — Coaches say Saturday high school volleyball tournaments can be beneficial to those who need some extra practice. Tourneys provide teams with a chance to try new things or iron out flaws while facing a variety of opponents. The Columbia City Lady Eagles and Whitko Lady Wildcats volleyball teams entered the Wawasee Tournament Saturday, both hoping to gain some consistency and show other teams just what they are capable of doing on the court.

LIGONIER — Columbia City’s boys and girls cross country teams yet again took on some of the top runners in Northeast Indiana this weekend. The Lady Eagles ran away with a fourth-place finish, while the boys placed 13th behind Churubusco after a tie-breaker. Four Lady Eagles placed in the top 25 Saturday with a slim 23 seconds separating all of them. “That’s just awesome,” said Columbia City Head Coach Bob Fahl.
