ARTSY PUPS: County art festival goes to the dogs

COLUMBIA CITY — Shelter dogs were the guests of honor at the Whitley County Autumn Arts Festival Saturday. The event was coordinated by Whitley County Humane Society board members and helped to raise funds and awareness for the county’s animal shelter.Several of the shelter’s four-legged residents attended the festival donned with an “adopt me” vest. The featured canines were greeted by festival-goers who lavished the dogs with affection.“They love all this attention,” said Shantel Sleighter, a volunteer at the shelter. “If we get lucky, maybe someone will see one of these dogs and decide to take him home.”Amanda Dillon, a volunteer, said the shelter has seen growth in support during the past several years.“The festival has always been a great way to introduce the public to some of the dogs,” Dillon said. “You just can’t help but fall in love with them when you look in their eyes. They are so sweet and loving.”Dillon is tasked with the job of professionally photographing the animals that come into the shelter. To read the rest of this story, see the Sept. 10 issue of The Post and Mail.
