Barney Bumbaugh, 78

NORTH MANCHESTER — Barney Martin Bumbaugh, 78, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 9:10 p.m. in his North Manchester home.He was born April 19, 1933 in Warsaw to Girrard M. “Judd” and Ethel F. (Deerwester) Bumbaugh.On Nov. 13, 1954, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jo McDonald.Bumbaugh served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 as an electrician with the 91st Field Maintenance.For the past seven years he’s lived in North Manchester.He worked at Dana Corporation for 32 years as a tool grinder, retiring in 1995.He was a 1951 graduate of Warsaw High School, loved softball and was a pitcher on the Air Force team while serving in the military.He loved bowling, riding his motorcycle and more recently had taken up biking, where he rode 20 miles a day.His great passion was music — especially piano and violin. He played with the Peru Symphony and in several plays at the Honeywell Center in Wabash..He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Warsaw, where he had attended since he was a boy. He was the church organist.Surviving are six sons, Garold (Cheryl) Bumbaugh, Claypool, Dave (Dolly) Bumbaugh, Claypool, Jeffrey Bumbaugh, Larwill, Joseph (Christy) Bumbaugh, Syracuse, Jim Bumbaugh, Pierceton, Paul (Kelly) Bumbaugh, Pierceton; two sisters, Joan Phillips, Oakdale, La. and Lois Franklin, Kalispell, Mont.; a mother-in-law, Lavore Nesbitt, North Manchester; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and his dog, Mollie, who misses him very much.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Max Bumbaugh, Gordy Bumbaugh and John Bumbaugh; a sister, Juarine Lee-Choicej and his father-in-law.There will be no visitation, but a private graveside service will be held at a later date.Interment will be in the Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
