Benjamin C. “Ben” Tackitt, 77, of Huntington, died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at The Heritage of Huntington.Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with one-hour visitation prior to service at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with Rev. Matt Gapinski officiating. The burial will be held in South Whitley Cemetery.Memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or Parkview Home Health Care and Hospice in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.“Ben” was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Wales, Ky., the son of Robert L. and Mellie (Little) Tackitt. He graduated in 1954 from South Whitley High School and attended the International Business College in Fort Wayne. Ben was a veteran of the U.S. Army and after his service in the military, he married Ginger K. Ferrell Nov. 17, 1957, in South Whitley. They shared 46 years of marriage before she preceded him in death Feb. 24, 2003.“Ben” retired in 2000 from Farmers Elevator of South Whitley after working as an accountant. Prior to that, he worked for Donald G. Fisher C.P.A. After retirement, Ben worked part-time for Terry Reckard C.P.A. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Huntington, and served as an usher for many years. Ben was also a charter member of the Evening Exchange Club of Huntington.Survivors include his two daughters, Jayne (Bruce) Tomlinson of Lagro and Joan (John) Johnson of Huntington;m three brothers, Maurice Tackitt of Garrett, Larry Tackitt of South Whitley, and Danny Tackitt of Sun City Center, Fla.; three grandchildren, Megan Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Kendall Tomlinson; special friend, Lois Foellinger of South Whitley, and mother-in-law, Evelyn Farrell of Huntington.Three brothers, Charles Tackitt, Freddie Tackitt, Quentin Tackitt and one granddaughter, Ashley Tomlinson preceded him in death.Sign the online guestbook at Bailey-Love Mortuary was honored to serve the family of Benjamin C.
