GOOD EATS: Simplifying food has positive impact on health

COLUMBIA CITY — Eating right is not just about losing weight. For some, it’s about preventing and curing common ailments that might stem from chemically-treated foods.Chris Lilly, of Avis Acres Farms in Columbia City, has seen a lot of change in his life since his family started their chemical-free lifestyle seven years ago. “Genetically modified foods and chemical practices have an influence on behavioral disorders, health and cancers,” Lilly said. He remembers the mood swings, stomach problems, headaches and arthritis that both Lilly and his wife, Jennifer, suffered prior to their diet switch. Lilly credits his more natural diet with curing the arthritis and diminishing the frequency of his headaches. Because the effects of eating more chemical-free foods has been such a positive change, Lilly has aligned with Indiana Senator Jim Banks to work on Farmers Market legislation that would provide buyers with more options.
