Lowell Sidwell, 81

Lowell Elden Sidwell (Sid), 81, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his home, in Columbia City, surrounded by family. Sid’s many successful business accomplishments include the opening of “Sid’s Barbershop” on Wells Street in 1957, “New Look Auto Body Shop” in 1969, and the “Fish of Stroh Restaurants” starting in 1973. In addition to running these businesses, he created an airflight program for the gaming industry. He started in Las Vegas in the early 1970s, and ended with the role of senior vice president for the Trump Organization in Atlantic City. He worked very closely with both Donald and Ivana Trump. Sid retired in 1993 to one of his favorite locations at Lake Wawasee in Syracuse. Lowell E. Sidwell honorably served our country as a Marine in the Korean War receiving a purple heart.Sid will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Gloria Sidwell of 62 years, whom he married in Fort Wayne on April 15, 1950. His children include daughter, Cindy (Gary) Minear, of Columbia City, Lowell Wesley (Suni) Sidwell, of Fort Wayne, Chris (Jean) Sidwell, of Cape Coral, Fla. and Cathy (Nik) Frye, of New Hampton, N.H. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Brad (Miranda) Minear, April Sidwell, Adam Sidwell, Sara Sidwell, Danielle (Noah) Genth, T.J. (Nicole) Minear, Cliff Sidwell, Logan and Cole Frye. Stepgrandchildren include Jason (Megan) Frye and Travis (Genevieve) Frye. Sid’s great-grandchildren include Evyn, Brooke, Garret Minear and Elijah Genth. He has one brother Frank (Nancy) Sidwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie F. and Roxie (Huff) Sidwell. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, with graveside military honors presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
