Mark David Gibson, 49, of Glen Burnie, Md. died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie after a brief illness.Born Feb. 7, 1963 in Elkhart, he was a son of the late David Gibson and Cora (Dale) Deter of Columbia City.He was a 1981 graduate of Concord High School in Elkhart and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington.Through his 26 years of service with the Department of Defense, he traveled extensively, most recently living in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England.He was a courier for the National Donor Marrow Program and a frequent blood donor. Having a passion for music, Gibson played the trumpet and was a member of the White Rose Concert Band in England and had the honor of playing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra twice. He was an active member of the Oakwood Wesleyan Church in Glen Burnie and enjoyed biking and playing racquetball. Most especially, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Besides his mother and stepfather, he is survived by his wife, Carole (Edmiston) Gibson; children, Aaron Mark and Rachel Cay Gibson of Severn, Md.; stepchildren, Brian, Kevin, Stephanie and Ashley Winkler of Ohio; sisters, Tammy (Paul) Percy of Green Bay, Wisc. and Becky (Kraig) Hand of Sidney, Ind.; and many other family members and friends. Services will be held both in Maryland and Indiana.Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Oakwood Wesleyan Church, 505 Oakwood Station Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 with the service following at 7 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Ken Clendaniel.In Indiana, the service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Columbia City Church of the Brethren, Columbia City, Pastor Dennis Beckner officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to: Compassion International, Colorado Springs, CO 80997 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.The Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, 421 Crain Highway S.E., Glen Burnie, MD 21061 assisted the family with arrrangements.Condolences may be sent via the website
