RANKED WARFARE: Whitley County volleyball foes highly regarded

WHITLEY COUNTY— Conventional sports wisdom says that, to be the best, one must beat the best.That sage advice will be put to the test for Columbia City and Churubusco’s high school volleyball teams this week.Both schools, competing in Class 3A and 2A, respectively, have highly-ranked foes standing in their way on the path to a sectional title.For Columbia City, the foe is a conference rival. Bellmont beat the Lady Eagles in three sets earlier this season.Additionally, the Squaws are on an eight-year sectional winning streak and are currently tabbed at fifth in the state in Class 3A, according to this week’s Coaches’ Poll.The match will be at Heritage, the sectional host, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.Mississnewa, ranked 13th in Class 3A, is also in Columbia City’s sectional and is a possible sectional championship opponent for the Lady Eagles.To read the rest of this story, see the Oct. 23 issue of The Post and Mail.
