Roush on to semistate

LIGONIER — Columbia City senior Samantha Roush qualified for the semi-state meet for girls cross country Saturday.Roush came in fifth at the West Noble regional with a time of 19:03.27. Fremont’s Abigail Hostetler won the girls race at 18:41.94.It will be the fourth consecutive year for Roush to run at semi-state.The top five teams and the top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the semi-state race, which will be held at New Haven at 1 p.m. The other regionals, besides West Noble, that feed into the semi-state are: Delta, Elkhart Central and Marion.Carroll won the girls race with 42 points, and Homestead was second with 94.Although Roush was the only Whitley County athlete to qualify for semi-state, other runners placed at the regional meet.Whitko’s Brigit Nemitz was 29th overall with a time of 20:23.61. Brooke Werstler of Columbia City was 36th at 20:41.14, Julia Folland of Churubusco was 66th and Erin Knepple of Columbia City was just behind, coming in at 67th.To read the rest of this story, see the Oct. 21 issue of The Post and Mail.
