S. WHITLEY: Town Council ties up loose ends on old business

SOUTH WHITLEY — South Whitley’s Town Council approved the minutes from its Oct. 25 meeting, where the council moved forward with the town’s new energy contract with Indiana Municipal Power Agency. The contract will replace the existing relationship with Duke Energy, saving the town of South Whitley an estimated $110,000 a year.In other council business, Waste Management’s contract for sludge hauling is soon to be expired.Town Attorney Greg Hockemeyer proposed that the council send a notification to Waste Management of its intent to not renew the current agreement. That cancellation will open the door for new bids. Dates and specifications on the account will be offered at a later date.•The ongoing Waste Water Treatment Plant renovations have created a concern with the Eel River bank between the State Street bridge, south to the treatment plant.Currently, the banks of the river experience a large amount of erosion. With new piping being laid along the riverbank, officials overseeing the treatment plant upgrades have deemed the erosion as an “emergency situation.”
