Several Local Businesses Have Longtime Ties to Whitley County

here are some things you see when you drive through Columbia City that are the embodiment of the town.  They are institutions.  The sign at Murphy Jewelers with the diamond tucked away in the capital "M" is as recognizable as any in Columbia City.  Since 1950 the family has operated in town and Marilyn Murphy has owned the business since 1988.

Murphy bought the business from her father Harold who started off with just a bench and a counter in a gift store downtown.  

In those 31 years Murphy has seen a lot change in the jewelry business and is still serving customers from the same location on Main St.
