The Lord's Acre Festival returned this past Saturday, Sept. 17. It originally came to Whitley County in 1949, but was discontinued after 1961. It returned to Whitley County in 2015. The event is a partnership between Etna Community Bible Church, West Point Trinity Church, West Etna Church, Salem Community Church, Troy Presbyterian Church and St. Matthew’s Community Church. Lord's Acre Festival took place at Etna Community Bible Church. The day began with a parade followed by an opening ceremony and prayer. Other events included music, a silent auction, live auction, food and more. The festival is a way to raise funds for the Boomerang Backpack program. Donations are used to pay for food that is packed into a book bag for children to take home and have food to eat over the weekend. Each bag contains three single serving boxes of cereal, one piece of fresh fruit, juice, two proteins and several other snacks. This year, it was noted, that need continues to grow with more than 200 children supported by the program.
