COLUMBIA CITY — There is a new business coming to Columbia City, with two local faces at the helm.
Co-owners Mike Driver and Greg Vance are opening Mobility Plus, a company that specializes in providing customized equipment and services for individuals with disabilities or disabled veterans.
Both have been long-time members of the community, and say they were inspired to open their store partly because of conversations with their spouses. They work in the medical industry and said there was a need for more services like this in the area.
Starting a business is certainly no easy task, but after undergoing some local training the team felt ready to tackle the challenge. One of these efforts was taking part in the 2019 Leadership Whitley County program. It is a part of the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation. It takes several months to complete, but the purpose of the program is to inspire individuals to become leaders in the community and workplace.
This community spirit still inspires them, and both say it is part of what attracted them to the Mobility Plus franchise.
“Everything they offered just sparked our interest,” they said, adding the company promoted community engagement in their message.
It also is a perfect fit based on their backgrounds and experience, with both bringing management and engineering experience to the business.
The storefront will be located at 220 Frontage Rd., Suite A in Columbia City. Customers can reach out to Driver or Vance for a consultation in the store or at home. They will then work with them to customize the equipment that is right for you. The goal, they said, is to provide the service that will help someone become more independent and improve quality of life.
Equipment can be purchased or rented, based on need, and Mobility Plus also provides installation assistance, repair services and more. Products include mobility scooters, lifts, ramps, power and lift chairs, walkers and more.
Vance and Driver’s location will be serving the Fort Wayne, Columbia City, Warsaw and surrounding areas. The store opens Sept. 1.
Both say they are, “looking forward to getting more hands-on with the business and products.”
“We’re providing a service people need and it is exciting, and we look forward to the next 20 years in the community,” they said.
