FORT WAYNE – Columbia City High School’s girls track and field team finished second at last Friday’s Legend Relays at North Side. The Eagles had 105 points, behind champion Carroll with 154.
Churubusco was sixth with 83 points.
For the Columbia City girls, their distance medley MDM relay squad of Samantha Lickey, Ava Sigler, Felice Mullinax and Addi Baxter finished first in Race 1 (7:05.96). Churubusco’s unit of Patty Wiggs, Madison Hosted, Delany Davis and Jorja DeBolt finished right behind Columbia City in second (7:20.38).
Elaina Hurst finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.36). Busco’s Alyssa Eby was eighth (17.14).
In Heat 1 of the 4x100-meter relay, Churubusco finished first with its team of Nancy Bianski, Ella Boersma, Bree Hosted and Madison Hosted (51.96). Columbia City was second in Heat 2 with its unit of Katie Bolt, Elizabeth Akey, Lorin Miller and Reid Jordan (52.44).
Columbia City swept both 600 meter races: Mullinax took the Division 1 event (1:40.85), with Alana Bonham winning Division 2 (1:47.33). Busco’s Bridget Timbrooke was ninth (2:03.73).
In the 1,600-meter run, Columbia City’s Katie Bolinger was sixth in Division 1 (5:49.40). Her teammate Brooke Zigler was second in the Division 2 race (5:46.42). Marilyn Sajdak of Busco was 10th (6:18.99).
In the 100-meter dash, Busco’s Nancy Bianski was third in Division 1 (12.96). Columbia City’s Reid Jordan was eighth (13.62). Columbia City’s Lorin Miller was sixth in Division 2 (13.91).
Columbia City and Busco went 2-3 in Heat 2 of the 4x400 relay. Columbia City’s team of Lillian Richmond, Sigler, Bonham and Baxter ran a 4:17.27, with Busco’s Boersma, Eby, Timbrooke and Wiggs just behind with a 4:20.11.
Busco’s Eby was fourth in the 300 hurdles in Division 1 (50.86). Columbia City’s Hurst was seventh (53.26).
Churubusco’s quartet of Elias, DeBolt, Davis and Sajdak was third in Heat 1 of the distance medley (15:52.29).
Columbia City’s team of Libby Snyder, Alya Wagner, Brooke Sigler and Katie Bolinger finished third in Heat 2 of the distance medley (15:04.13).
In Heat 1 of the 4x200 relay, Churubusco was first with its unit of Bianski, Boersma, Eby and Bree Hosted (1:49.81).
Columbia City’s unit of Katie Bolt, Sadie Ward, Baxter and Jordan was fourth in Heat 2 of the 4x200 relay (1:53.26).
Columbia City took first in Heat 1 of the 2000 sprint medley (5:49.55). Churubusco was seventh (6:33.51).
In the Division 1 long jump, Busco’s Bianski was fifth (16-01). Columbia City’s Ward was ninth (14-06).
Busco’s Rosey Stephens was fourth in the Division 2 long jump (14-06). Stephens was also fourth in the Division 1 pole vault (8-06). Columbia City’s Jada Van Houten was sixth (8-0). Katie Bolt was second in the Division 2 pole vault for Columbia City (8-0).
In the Division 1 discus, Busco’s Kenna Hamman was third (97-06). Her teammate DeBolt was third (97-06) and Columbia City’s Madi Gawthrop ninth in the Division 2 discus (70-02).
Gawthrop was third in the Division 1 shot put (31-07). Busco’s Hamman was sixth (29-08). Her teammate Debolt was fifth in the Division 2 shot put (28-03). Columbia City’s Michela Clifford was 11th (26-00).
Columbia City fifth at North Side
FORT WAYNE – The 70th edition of the North Side Relays at North Side High School saw several Columbia City High School athletes make it to the awards stand.
Concord won the overall team title with 123 points. Angola was third with 112; Columbia City fifth with 94; DeKalb eighth with 72; Carroll 13th with 49; East Noble 16th with 33; and Central Noble 17th with 32.
The Eagles had a number of top performances at North Side. Sophomore Landon Fazio was eighth in the Division 2 100-meter dash (11.62). Senior Ethan Sievers was 12th in the Division 1 race (11.54).
Sophomore Daniel Mullett was fourth in the Division 2 1,600-meter run (4:43.95). Junior Marcus Ridge finished sixth in the Division 1 event (4:34.37).
Senior Kaden Schnorr was sixth in the Division 1 110-meter hurdles (16.38) and fourth in the Division 1 300-meter hurdles (42.58).
The Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay quartet of Noah Pletcher, Landon Fazio, Peyton Shearer and Ethan Sievers placed third (44.32). The 4x200-meter squad of Fazio, Shearer, Tyler Crosson and Sievers was second (1:33.14).
Columbia City’s 4x400-meter relay team of Hayden Garcia, Austin Kirchner, Noah Pletcher and Tyler Sparks placed sixth (3:41.79). The Eagles’ 4x800-meter relay team of Ridge, Daniel Mullett, Zach Pletcher and Dylan Anspach finished second (8:31.23).
The 800-meter spring medley squad of Noah Pletcher, Shearer, Sievers and Crosson finished fifth (1:41.81). The 4,000-meter distance medley team of Mullett, Sparks, Gavin Good and Ridge was sixth (11:33.43).
Blake McCoy was sixth in the Division 2 high jump (5-6). Martin Smith was sixth in the Division 1 high jump (5-8).
Junior Ian Stahl was fourth in the Division 1 pole vault (12-6); his teammate Austin Henry, a sophomore, was second in the Division 2 event (11-6). Smith was sixth in the Division 1 long jump (20-02); Crosson won the Division 1 event (20-09).
Senior Easton Carnahan won the Division 1 shot put (37-3); junior Joel Yager placed fourth in the Division 2 event (41-5).
Senior Hunter Kyler was 12th in the Division 2 discus (99-6).
Busco boys win Tim Wilkins Invite
CHURUBUSCO – Winning their cherished home invitational has become a tradition for Churubusco.
The Eagles did it again last Saturday, taking the hardware in the Tim Wilkins Invitational. Churubusco had 135.5 points. Wabash was a distant second with 97. Manchester was third with 87.
Garrett was sixth with 34.5 points. Eastside tied for seventh with Jimtown with 33. Fremont was 10th with 25, and Lakewood Park Christian was 12th with 17 points.
In Churubusco, the Eagles were led by senior standout Riley Buroff. He won the 200-meter dash in a new meet record time of 22.12 seconds, won the 400 in a meet record time of 47.67 seconds, anchored the Eagles’ winning 4-by-400 relay team that finished in a meet record time of 3 minutes, 28.88 seconds, and was second in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6 feet, 1 inch.
The guy who beat Buroff in the high jump set a meet record. Manchester’s Kolby Haecker cleared 6-7 and beat Buroff’s meet record of 6-5 set last year.
The rest of Churubusco’s 4-by-400 relay team were Kam Rinker, Wyatt Neireiter and Evan Palmer. The old meet record was set by Manchester last year at 3:32.55.
The old 400 meet record was 49.25 seconds by Buroff last year. The old 200 meet record was 22.68 seconds set by Manchester’s Kegan McNeeley in 2012.
Eastside junior Dane Sebert won both throwing events, throwing the discus 165 feet and the shot a meet record distance 53-1. The old shot put record was 51-11.75 by Churubusco’s Austin McClure in 2013.
Back to the Eagles, Cullen Blake won the pole vault at 12 feet. Churubusco also won the 4-by-800 relay in a meet record time of 8:20.29 with the quartet of Josh Emenhiser, Brett Cretsinger, Palmer and Neireiter. The old record was 8:27.40 from Elkhart Christian in 2017.
Neireiter won the 800 in a meet record time of 2:03.03, and teammate Palmer was second in 2:04.37. The old 800 meet record was 2:03.08 by Wabash’s Sam Hall in 2015.
Rinker and Brayden Bianski had high finishes in both hurdles events for Churubusco. Rinker was second in the 300 hurdles in 42.65 seconds, followed by Bianski in third at 43.64. Bianski was third in the 110 hurdles in 1.39 seconds, followed by Rinker in fourth at 16.72 seconds.
Bianski was second in the long jump at 21-3. Gavin Huelsenbeck was second in the discus at 135-10. Weston Ott was third in the shot put at 42-2.5
