THROWBACK THURSDAY: Picking huckleberries

Staff Writer

Glenn E. Burns pictured with huckleberries (wild blueberries) that he picked in Thorncreek Township during his summer break from Wabash College in 1922. The swampy areas near Loon Lake were bountiful with huckleberries. The berries were canned for medicinal purposes by his mother, Mrs. Elgie Burns, as a remedy for chest colds and other winter ailments.
